Care Philosophy
I am your partner in your health care. However, you will have to do most of the work. I expect my patients to take responsibility for their health. This includes learning about their problems and keeping track of things. Many times, I will ask for you to keep track of your blood pressures, blood sugars, pain, headaches, stomach aches etc on paper and bring to your appointment. This is not busy work. It helps me to help you.

In general, I encourage healthy lifestyle choices. For many medical problems, you will achieve the best result by weight loss, healthy diet, exercise and stopping smoking.

I am not a pill pusher. Each pill given should be for a specific purpose, either comfort or because it is the standard of care. I try to give the medicines with the best evidence behind them. If you think you are on too many pills, check with me and we can discuss each one at your next appointment.

I encourage the use of counseling, yoga, meditation, physical therapy and chiropractic. Feel free to discuss these with me. I am knowledgeable about some herbal medicines and recommend them when appropriate. Please remember that many of these are untested and may or may not be appropriate for your condition.

I request consultations with specialists when needed. However, there are many conditions which I am comfortable treating myself, including diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, acne, depression and anxiety. I do routine pap smears and breast exams. I also perform simple stitching for cuts and minor skin biopsies (not on the face). And knee, elbow and shoulder injections. Please discuss with me if you think you need a specialist.

I am a real person with feelings just like you. I am not perfect, so don't expect me to be. But please do expect excellent care!

TEST RESULTS

I go by the philosophy- "No news is NO news".

You should ALWAYS know the results of all tests.

For people with chronic medical problems, such as diabetes, we will plan your tests so that blood work will be done 1 week prior to your next appointment. I will discuss your results with you when you come in.

If we do not plan a return visit, you can expect your results by email.  If I leave a message to call me back about your test, do NOT assume the worst. I probably just have to explain your result to you.

Sometimes, I get behind in relaying your results. Office visits take priority. If you haven't received your results in a timely fashion, please contact me. Please give the date and the location of your test. I may not have received the results. This will help me track things down.

NEVER assume that your test is normal. Take responsibility for your health and make sure you know what your results are.
Hospital Care
I do not follow my patients to the hospital.  I make every effort to keep my patients out of the hospital.  I can not achieve the goals I have set for my practice (punctual visits, online appointments, same day/same week appointments) if I go to the hospital.

HOWEVER, if you are in the hospital, PLEASE  have a family member call me immediately.  (Do not assume the hospital will do so, even though they should.)    I will send your hospital doctors any tests or reports to assure they are not missing any information.  Your hospital doctors can call me any time in the same way you do in an emergency. 716-633-3323 x7.

I have contracted with hospitalists at the following hospitals.  I send them anything needed and am available to speak to  them at any time.  They in turn, send me information needed to follow up.

Hospitalist Service at Buffalo General Hospital (Kaleida Health)
Hospitalist Service at Millard Filmore Suburban Hospital (Kaleida Health)
Hospitalist Service at Mercy Hospital of Buffalo (Catholic Health System)
Hospitalist Service at St. Joseph's Hospital (Catholic Health System)

What is a Hospitalist?  Hospitalists help manage patients throughout the continuum of hospital care, often seeing patients in the ER, admitting them to inpatient wards, following them as necessary into the critical care unit, and organizing post hospital care. They return the patient to the primary care physican upon discharge.
